Karisia Runs for Lira

Last week Karisia ran the Barcelona marathon, partly to celebrate her birthday and largely to raise money for the Lira Clinic. She did great, raising £1,500.

In 2008 Suubi Trust helped to support:
On Hope Ward 289 patients were admitted for complex medical care, including treatments for Cancer
At the Lira Clinic 2,535 patients were treated through the charity project

Throughout this year Suubi Trust has been supporting charity work at the Lira Health Clinic.

180 Treated at Lira Clinic in September

In September 180 people were able to get care at the Lira Clinic due to financial support from Suubi Trust. 86 of these patients were aged 18 and under. 38 were referred to the clinic by the staff at the Lira Primary School.

Care for Pupils at Lira Primary School

St. Peter’s Methodist Primary School has collected two more gifts to help support healthcare provided to the pupils at the Lira Primary School. In July they raised £188.05 at the end of term production and more recently £102.16 at their Harvest celebration. Earlier this year St. Peter’s raised £255.49.

Immunisations in July

Kenneth Odongo (Medical Clinical Officer at the Lira Clinic)
has sent us a report showing details of the 50 patients that he has treated with various immunisations in July, including Measles and Polio. Three quarters of those being treated are young children under the age of 5.

In June we treated 426 charity patients at the Lira Clinic.
Jemimah, our Programme Coordinator, has provided the following analysis and comment:
80% of those treated are 18 years or younger, 122 are 5 and under
We had 63 referrals from the Lira Primary School
The top two conditions treated were Malaria and Respiratory Tract Infection
