Mubiru Lwasa has featured in previous Hope Ward News letters. He was beaten, his bones were broken, and he was then starved and locked in a box for months by his father. His father was arrested tried and sent to Luzira prison. But no one was left to care for Mubiru now all alone and disoriented in Mulago Hospital. He was found by a kind lady (Mabel) who Mubiru now calls Jaja (grandma). Mabel took care of Mubiru as though he were her own grandchild. When he was brought to Hope Ward, Mabel came with him and was at his bedside everyday for the nine months he spent on Hope Ward.
Below is a picture of Mubiru on Hope Ward when he first came and eight months after his admission:
Once we had dealt with Mubiru’s medical problems, he had had multiple surgeries to cure his bones; we were left the challenge of finding a home for him. For about five months we approached several orphanages and organisations without much success. Just two weeks ago, Bless a Child Foundation opened a home and took in Mubiru.
While at his new Hope Mubiru was asked what he wanted to be in future and he said he wanted to be a pilot. So they organised a special treat for him and gave him a ride in a private plane.
…Another life touch by the support of many of you Friends of Hope Ward. Thank You
