Alex is a teenager, one of 6 children who live with his mother – a widower. She was struggling to cope and trying to earn a living as a cook in the slums when a friend offered to help assist the children through education. Sadly, Alex developed a cancer which was unfortunately misdiagnosed and he was given different chemotherapy before he was sent to us. His true diagnosis was Hodgkins lymphoma. By that time there was no-one able to help.
By the time Alex arrived at Hope Ward, he was angry and confused. He thought that God was punishing him. However, Alex has done well with several courses of chemotherapy over the last 3 years. Since receiving help on the charity project, Alex’s outlook has changed. He is very grateful for all the care he has received and wears a smile despite the knowledge that his cancer is not curable.
