Touch Namuwongo: Services

The following services will be provided by the Touch Namuwongo programme:

Health Education: This will be catered to the target group in each case; but will include ABC HIV awareness, especially focussing on the need for faithfulness among married couples, knowing your status, the risks of early intercourse in youth and cross-generational and transactional sex. It will also include safer sex, risks of HIV and STIs; and PMTCT.

Health Promotion: All community members who attend outreach sessions will be offered impregnated bed nets and condoms. Condoms will only be issued in the context of ABC Health Education as described above.

VCT: VCT will be offered in the outreach setting, with an anticipated take-up of 2400 clients over the first year. Those people who do not wish to be tested at outreach can come to the clinic for testing.

STI Surveillance: STI testing and treatment will be offered to 125 clients per month. Syndromic management will be carried out at outreach, as well as testing, treatment and follow up offered in the clinic setting.

Other Medication: This will include the government recommended antibiotics for STIs and other infections i.e. metronidazole, ciprofloxacin and doxycycline. UNEPI vaccinations, Vitamin A supplements and anti-malarial treatment will also be made available.
