Finally, underprivileged in-patients have hope. Their hope lies in rescue efforts from socially-responsible companies towards International Hospital Kampala’s (IHK) Hope Ward.
Speaking at a function where Stanbic, Crane and Barclays banks issued cheques in contribution towards the cost of treatment of the ward’s patients recently, Dr Ian Clarke, IHK’s CEO, said, “Make money and send it to us. We would like you to let people know this place exists.”
Stanbic Bank donated $15,000 the equivalent of a bed’s annual sponsorship, while Crane and Barclays banks donated sh13.8m ($7500) each, the equivalent of a six-month’s sponsorship of one bed.
Pointing at a picture of a surviving youth, Clarke said many critically- injured people would have died if it weren’t for the Hope Ward.
Maimed, cancer, acid burns and road accident patients qualify for treatment at the ward, whose cost is met by corporate organisations.
Clarke urged other organisations to join.
